Artistic influences and creative processes form the motivation behind Colin Browne's work. He was formally educated in cultural anthropology at the University of Delaware. He has over 25 years of experience restoring older New England homes, building high-end new homes, timber-framing, and cabinetmaking. Colin has worked for the last 15 years in the Philadelphia area from his restored 200 year old home, complete with woodshop in the barn, from which he creates unique fine cabinetry and custom millwork.

Colin's inspiration for his designs is drawn from many varied sources notably Pennsylvania artist and craftsman Wharton Esherick, California architects Green & Green as well as more spare and modern influences. Every project is a creative collaboration between Colin and the client. He uses his many years of experience to work with each client to develop and guide a vision for the project, instead of imposing a preconceived idea on the process. From the initial discussion, to the drafting table, to the construction phase, each job becomes a unique undertaking.

Colin Browne woodworker carpenter in Philadelphia

"Colin Browne is an artist.  I’ve worked with him now on remodeling our kitchen, building an addition, and building a full-wall cabinet — among other things. He is by far the best carpenter I have ever known or worked with — everything he creates is structurally sound, perfectly aligned, and beautiful. But Colin’s work goes far beyond technical perfection and great functionality — his design skills are simply amazing. I so enjoyed the many conversations we had as we co-created my space! And his sense of balance, flow, aesthetics, beauty — he truly is an artisan of the first order."
— Annie McKee, Elkins Park, PA

"Colin Browne created a masterpiece in my barn. I had a 200 year old stone barn that was a shell. He worked closely with me to design an interior that met my needs and worked within my budget.  He is incredibly creative, has good communication skills and is fun to work with. Colin’s skill at managing projects and commitment to excellence made the entire project a pleasure. Colin is an artist and his craftsmanship is reflective of it.  The barn is beautiful, functional and an amazing space. It is all due to Colin."

"Colin is detailed, thoughtful, and has a great aesthetic sense. There is no carpentry problem in an old house that he can’t solve."
